Harleysville Fire Company’s 100th year anniversary just became a little more special, after the company appointed its first female officer in their history.

22-year-old Zoe Kloufetos has been a member of the Harleysville Fire Company since 2016. Her promotion went into effect on the first Tuesday of January.

“I've been really dedicated to being an active member and helping others at the firehouse learn as well,” Kloufetos said. “For me, it's something that felt like it came naturally, and I'm very honored to be the first female to serve in the company.”

Kloufetos hopes that her promotion inspires young girls to remain dedicated to whatever they are passionate about.

“I think it's important to think of it as being a role model for others — for young females — and knowing that there's not really any stereotypes in the world anymore,” Kloufetos said. “You can do anything you want to do, as long as you're dedicated and have the willpower to do it.”

Kloufetos mentioned the company’s pride in celebrating 100 years in service.

“A 100th anniversary is a really big deal for the fire company, especially considering we've been all-volunteer for 100 years now,” Kloufetos said. “There's a huge decline in volunteers all over the country, so we're really proud to still be standing strong and still serving our community.”

The 100th year celebration will be held on the first Saturday in October during their annual open house, however plans have not been finalized. To learn more about the Harleysville Fire Company, click here.
