Woman Accused of Stealing More Than $900 in Medication from Wegmans at Montgomery Mall

A Norristown woman is facing felony retail theft charges after she allegedly stole more than $900 worth of over-the-counter medication from Wegmans at the Montgomery Mall.

Montgomery Township Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Bethlehem Pike on Jan. 19 at 7:59 p.m. for a report of a retail theft. An employee with asset protection told police that surveillance footage from Jan. 7 and Jan. 19 showed a female suspect entering the store, placing multiple medications into a reusable bag and exiting the store without paying, according to the complaint.

Total value of the merchandise taken on the two days was $901.33, police said. The suspect was subsequently identified by police as 35-year-old Sherilynn Nurmi, as they said they knew her from previous retail thefts.

Nurmi was arraigned by District Judge Margaret Hunsicker on Jan. 31 on felony charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property. She is currently awaiting her Feb. 22 preliminary hearing at county jail in lieu of $77 bail, court records show.

As previously reported by North Penn Now, bail being set at $77 is a code, of sorts, indicating that there was a detainer out for the defendant at the time of their arrest.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
