A Lansdale man is heading to state prison after pleading guilty to repeatedly striking a woman with a baseball bat.
Edward Dyson, 42, was sentenced to four-to-eight-years in prison on Friday after pleading guilty to one felony count of aggravated assault with extreme indifference stemming from the February 2021 assault. Additional charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, possessing an instrument of crime and harassment were withdrawn in exchange for the plea, court records show.
Dyson, who was in custody at county jail in lieu of $50,000 bail while awaiting court proceedings, will receive credit for 361 days of time served, according to court records.
The charges stem from a February 2021 assault in Lansdale Borough in which Dyson repeatedly struck a woman in the head with a baseball bat. (Editor’s note: some details from the criminal complaint are being withheld due to the nature of the incident.)
According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to a location in the borough at 5:06 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2021, for a report of a woman who was bleeding from the head after being struck with a baseball bat. Upon arrival, police said the victim’s head and hair were blood-soaked and there were pools of blood on the ground.
The suspect, later identified as Dyson, had fled the scene prior to police arrival, according to the report.
The victim stated that Dyson had made statements about a conspiracy, then struck her numerous times with a baseball bat, according to the complaint. Police said they observed injuries to the victim’s back, shoulder and head, and she was transported from the scene via ambulance for medical treatment.
The attack was not random in nature, per the complaint. The bat was recovered at the scene, police said.
Approximately 20 minutes later, police located Dyson several blocks from the scene and placed him under arrest, the report states. The complaint states that Dyson’s actions “placed [the victim] in danger of serious bodily injury, with extreme indifference to the value of human life.”
As a result of the incident, Dyson was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, three counts of simple assault, reckless endangerment, possession of an instrument of crime and harassment.
Court records show that Dyson has a lengthy history of assault convictions in Bucks and Montgomery counties, including the following:
