This Friday, Feb. 4, the Eclipse Center for Creative Community will hold an opening night gallery for their new exhibit, titled “It’s the Process.”
Center Director Joanne Coppens said that, assuming the weather holds this week, the opening will be a great chance to see unique pieces and learn more about what the space offers.
“We are an art center in Lansdale,” said Coppens. “We have classes and studios for rent. We do paint parties and craft parties, and have two floors of galleries, as well as boutique space.”
While the center, which officially opened in July 2021, offers a wide variety of opportunities for artists of all ages, this newly featured gallery exhibit will focus on process art.
Process art, Coppens explained, is “not all about the final result, but more how you get there.”
She said that 20 adult artists contributed to the exhibit, which will feature mediums such as textiles, mixed media, clay and wax figures, as well as unique presentations. The exhibitors in this show reign from as close as Philadelphia and Bucks County, and as far away as the Lehigh Valley and New York.
“We put out calls every six weeks,” explained Coppens, on finding the unique talents. “Artists submit based on the theme.”
From some that ship in their pieces, to those that stop by locally, the collection of artists spans a variety of ages and experience levels as vast as its locales. Due to the pandemic’s status, food and wine will not be served this time around, though guests will be given a “sweet treat” to take home, as well as a chance to win a $50 gift card toward upcoming classes at the center.
The center, located at 30 Vine St. in Lansdale, will open the exhibit on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., weather permitting. Should there be icy conditions unsafe for travel, the center will postpone the event to the following Friday, Feb. 11, as had happened in the week past. Stay tuned to the Center’s Facebook page for more details.
The new gallery opening, however, isn’t the only chance locals have to check out the robust calendar at the center. A new, fully packed schedule of classes is also about to release. These classes welcome everyone, from parent and toddler classes, where the duos work together to “take home something nice and create a wonderful memory” (all the while leaving the mess at the studio instead of your home), to adult drawing and painting classes. The new art class schedule also has an afterschool art club for those in elementary and one for those in middle school, which will meet two times each week.
“We have a wide offering,” said Coppens.
Those interested in registering for an upcoming art class can visit the center’s website at eclipsec3.com or call the center at 267-263-4059 for more information.
The Eclipse Center for Creative Community is open from noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday to Saturday, with Thursdays having extended hours until 7 p.m. Alternatively, private appointments can be made for Tuesdays by calling the center directly.
