Elm Terrace Resident To Celebrate Her 100th Birthday Friday

Elm Terrace Gardens is celebrating the century mark for one of its residents!

Doris Fessler, who was born on Feb. 5, 1922, in Philadelphia, will be honored with a drive-by Friday by Lansdale Mayor Garry Herbert, Lansdale Police and Fairmount Fire Company vehicles, and the public is invited to join the parade at 2 p.m. Elm Terrace is located at 660 N. Broad St. in Lansdale,

Doris and her husband, Harold, moved to Elm Terrace In September of 2003, but were no strangers to the senior living facility when they arrived — both had volunteered at ETG for years.  Doris and Harold are longtime members of First Baptist Church. The Fesslers met at the St. James Methodist Church in Olney (while Harold was dating Doris’ best friend, though we are assured they all remained friends).

Doris and Harold will also celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary this year: They were married Aug. 1, 1942. She is a 1940 graduate of Olney High School, was employed by Leeds and Northrup for 25 years, and after retirement in 1982 worked part-time at Harleysville National Bank for another 10 years and became an "Avon Lady” as well.

Elm Terrace Gardens will have a party in Doris’ honor starting at noon Friday; a vaccinated community, ETG still practices social distancing and masking as well.

Elm Terrace Gardens’ mission is to serve older adults by providing independent living, personal care, memory support, and skilled nursing services in a caring, stimulating and spiritually nourishing environment, seeking the highest levels of quality for a life plan community.
