Three Courses Worth Consideration this Semester at North Montco Technical Career Center

Whether you want to jumpstart your technical career or gain valuable home improvement skills, North Montco Technical Career Center has something to offer adults.

North Montco has over 20 Adult and Continuing Education courses to choose from. Here are few that may interest you:

Cabinet Making/Furniture Making

  • Day(s): Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Training time: 48 hours
  • Course Dates: Feb. 22 through April 21

Build a beautiful end table from hardwood. With instruction from a master craftsman, you will learn the basics of woodworking and finishing. Course covers shop safety and proper use of the jointer, planer table saw, and miter saw. Demonstrations and practice for dado, rabbet, and dovetail joints. Students will learn how to raise the grain while sanding and make a three-part varnish mix. A variety of hand and power tools will be used. Student will leave with a completed table.

Industrial Electricity

  • Day(s): Wednesdays, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Training time: 36 hours
  • Course Dates: Feb. 9 through May 4

This course is for persons working in industrial or commercial facilities who perform electrical repairs along with their other maintenance duties. Electrical trade basics for the business environment, including packaging, manufacturing, and process industries. Combined lecture and lab training covers:

  • Motor starter sizing and protection
  • National Electrical Code
  • Series/parallel wiring in reference to control wiring, control transformers, 1 & 3 motor wiring (AC), contractors for non-motor loads
  • Reading and understanding elementary schematics & symbols and interfacing stop/start stations, limit switches, pressure switches and proximity sensors
  • Introduction to forward/reverse starters, VFD’s and conduit bending/installation

Programmable Logic Controllers (Introduction):

  • Day(s): Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Training time: 36 hours
  • Course Dates: Feb. 28 through April 6

This course is an introduction to the SLC 500 TM family of small programmable controllers. You will learn hardware configurations and computer numbering systems and receive hands-on I/O devices: relay type instructions, timers and counters are all covered. Troubleshooting techniques are introduced throughout each topic area. An understanding of basic computer skills/Windows and the concepts presented in Industrial Electricity is desirable.
