The unemployment rate in Pennsylvania remained stable in the month of November, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.
In November, Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate remained at 4 percent, which matches the record low set in October 2022.
The unemployment rate in the state was 1.5 percentage points lower than it was in November 2021.
The national unemployment rate in November was 3.7 percent. The level was unchanged from October.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate in Bucks County for October – the most recent month for which data are available – was 2.9 percent, a decrease from the previous month.
The anticipated number of people working or seeking for job during the month of November in Pennsylvania decreased by 5,000 throughout the course of the month. The employment count decreased by 2,000 and resident unemployment decreased by 3,000.
“A historically low unemployment rate for two months in a row means that Pennsylvania workers have the ability to be selective in their search for family-sustaining wages and career paths that afford them the ability to pursue their passions,” Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry Secretary Jennifer Berrier said. “But the flipside of a low unemployment rate is scarcity of skilled workers for some industries. So, we must remain vigilant in our efforts to invest in growing our labor force, developing skilled workers who meet the needs of Pennsylvania employers and attracting talented workers to the commonwealth.”
At 6,021,800 in November, Pennsylvania’s total nonfarm employment increased by 10,400 over the previous month. In nine of the 11 industry supersectors, there were more jobs in November than in October.
Pennsylvania recovered almost 93.5 percent of the jobs lost in the first two months of the pandemic between April 2020 and November 2022, officials said.
In November 2022, employment in three supersectors – trade, transportation, and utilities; information; and professional and business services – was higher than it was before to the pandemic, according to state data.
