Harleysville Man Charged After Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Crack Cocaine, 1.3 Pounds of Marijuana, Police Say

A Harleysville man is facing felony and misdemeanor drug charges stemming from a traffic stop that occurred in Upper Gwynedd Township earlier this year.

Jacob Davis, 19, has been charged with two felony counts of possession with intent to distribute along with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of an offensive weapon and related offenses, in connection with the incident. He is currently in custody at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $49,077 cash bail, with the “77” indicating a probation/parole detainer was also filed.

Police were traveling in the area of Swedesford Road on Feb. 19 towards Sumneytown Pike when they allegedly observed a vehicle driven by Davis cross the intersection without stopping for the stop sign. Police then initiated a traffic stop and made contact with Davis, who stated that he didn’t have a valid driver’s license, according to charging documents.

As Davis spoke with police, he noted there was a juvenile female in the vehicle that could drive the vehicle home at the conclusion of the traffic stop, police said. However, as police were preparing to hand off the citation and allow the female to take control of the vehicle, they noticed several plastic zipper pouches containing marijuana on the floor of the vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.

Davis’ face reportedly sunk when he realized police had observed the packages, and he confessed to having “weed” in his pockets, police said. A search of Davis and his vehicle allegedly uncovered the following:

  • A plastic trash bag containing 407 grams of marijuana
  • 61 zipper top plastic bags containing 185 grams of marijuana
  • 20 red plastic vials containing individual rocks of crack cocaine
  • Digital scales
  • Vacuum packaging
  • A stun gun in a holster

Charges were officially filed against Davis on Oct. 20, however he wasn’t taken into custody until Nov. 22. Court records show Davis waived his preliminary hearing, and his next court appearance is a formal arraignment on Jan. 11, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
