Fundraiser Launched for Daughter of Missing Sellersville Woman

Elizabeth “Beth” Capaldi, 55, of Sellersville.

A fundraiser has been launched for the daughter of a missing 55-year-old Sellersville woman who is presumed dead after her husband allegedly led police to the location of human remains near the Philadelphia International Airport Friday afternoon.

The GoFundMe seeks to raise funds for Emma Capaldi, whose father was taken into custody late Thursday night and whose mother has been missing since the morning of Oct. 10. The funds will be used for any future needs Emma may encounter. Click here to donate.

During the morning of Oct. 10, 55-year-old Elizabeth “Beth” Capaldi was last seen at her home in Sellersville by her husband, 57-year-old Stephen Capaldi. Two days later, the couple’s daughter, Emma, officially reported her mother as a missing person.

Several weeks later, Bucks County District Attorney Matthew Weintraub held a press conference about Elizabeth’s disappearance, stating Elizabeth worked from the home and was not known to travel outside of the local area alone. Weintraub added that Elizabeth had taken her wallet with her, however she left her phone, keys, and vehicle behind.

When asked why the daughter filed the report instead of the husband during that late-October press conference, Weintraub did not provide an answer but added investigators had spoken with the husband.

Over the weeks that followed, speculation on social media groups ran wild as hundreds of area residents volunteered to conduct foot searches of various areas across the region in the hopes of finding Elizabeth. Ultimately, those efforts proved unsuccessful and no additional leads or information was provided by law enforcement.

Then, word spread quickly during the morning of Dec. 9 that Elizabeth’s husband, Stephen, had been taken into police custody in Bucks County. North Penn Now confirmed that Stephen was in custody at the Bucks County Correctional Facility, and that a small police presence that was observed at the Capaldi home Thursday night had grown into a large police presence by noon Friday.

Following up on North Penn Now’s coverage, CBS3’s Joe Holden reported Friday afternoon that a man in an orange jumpsuit — believed to be Stephen Capaldi — was leading multiple law enforcement agencies in the search of an area near the Philadelphia International Airport. Less than an hour later, personnel from the Medical Examiners Office reportedly discovered human remains within the search area at the airport.

While the remains are believed to be those of Elizabeth Capaldi, officials have not offered any confirmation as of Monday morning. When reached for comment on Friday, a spokesperson with the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office stated they were prohibited from releasing information about the case, but they expected to address questions during a news conference later this week.

Though investigators have not confirmed the remains belong to Elizabeth, her daughter Emma posted a series of images and a video indicating her mother was dead.

“My beautiful mother is gone from this world. She made me who I am,” said Emma Capaldi, in the post. “She touched so many people.”

As of Monday morning, Stephen Capaldi remains in custody at the Bucks County Correctional Facility, however no charges have been filed against him at this time. Reports indicate he is cooperating with investigators, and charges are likely to be announced later this week at the district attorney’s yet-to-be-scheduled press conference.
