Towamencin DAR Sponsors Wreaths Across America Event

The Towamencin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is sponsoring a Wreaths Across America Day ceremony at Wentz’s United Church of Christ cemetery, 3246 Skippack Pike, Skippack, at noon on Saturday, Dec. 17, rain or shine.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony to honor the veterans laid to rest in the cemetery. Invited dignitaries include Lansdale Mayor Garry Herbert and state Rep. Milou Mackenzie who represents the 131st Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Towamencin DAR began sponsoring Wreaths Across America in 2019, with plans to continue into the future at Wentz’s UCC.

In 1992, Morrill Worcester, owner of Worcester Wreath Company, Harrington, Maine, found himself with a surplus of 5,000 wreaths during the holiday season. He saw the surplus as an opportunity to pay tribute to our country’s veterans. With the help of then Maine Senator Olympia Snowe, he arranged for the wreaths to be placed at Arlington National Cemetery. This annual tribute has continued ever since. The wreath-laying efforts expanded in 2007 with the formation of Wreaths Across America to support those around the country who wished to do the same.
