Chalfont Man Arrested After Attacking Man with Pair of Swords, Police Say

A Chalfont man has been arrested and charged after he attacked another man with swords, according to police.

Gregory James, 41, has been charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault along with a summary charge of harassment, court records show. He is currently in custody at the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of 10% of $25,000 cash bail.

On Oct. 28 at 11:41 a.m., New Britain Township Police responded to an apartment building along the unit block of Barry Road after a caller said James was armed with swords. When police arrived, James was standing in the grass in front of the property, and upon speaking to police, he slurred his words and smelled of alcohol, according to charging documents.

Police said they found two swords on the ground near James and spoke to the caller, who said James — while allegedly wielding both swords — cut the top of both of his hands and then tried to stab him. The complaint notes cuts and dried blood on the tops of the victim’s hands.

The criminal complaint does not disclose what provoked the attack, however the attack itself was not random and the victim was known to the accused, police said.

James was arraigned later that day at 3:45 p.m. by District Judge Michael W. Petrucci, who set bail at 10% of $25,000. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Dec. 13 at 1 p.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
