A York Avenue Elementary third-grader's creativity has made the Lansdale Police Department’s holiday a little more merry and bright.

Isabella Lukens beat out students at Knapp Elementary and Mater Dei Elementary and won an inaugural contest to create the Christmas card for the police department this year. In addition to the Christmas card, Lukens’ artwork has been printed on mugs as gifts for the town’s elected officials, according to her parents Emily and Justin Lukens.

Furthermore, Lukens was escorted to school on Friday by a Lansdale Police officer.

“Thank you Chief Trail and the entire Lansdale Borough Police Department for creating this opportunity for our children and for selecting our daughter’s work,” said Emily Lukens. “We’re so proud of her!”

Emily Lukens said Isabella puts passion and creativity into everything she does.

“Having her artwork turned into a Christmas card has been such a memorable experience for her,” said Lukens. “(My husband and I) are also thankful that our community has opportunities available to let our children shine.”

Lukens said she is excited to see a new tradition in Lansdale.

According to its Facebook post, the department’s contest involved third graders at the three elementary schools in Lansdale. Borough.

“We asked the third-grade classes to create a design for the department’s Christmas card. One winner from each school would receive a bag of goodies and a ride to school in a Police Car,” said the post.

However, from the three school winners, only one was picked to be this year’s department Christmas card, according to the post.

“The overall winner for the card contest is Isabella. Congratulations and thank you,” said the department.
