Officer Travis Wood was promoted to the rank of police sergeant for Towamencin Township Police Department Wednesday night.
“His fellow officers within our department, as well as those in the entire region, will tell you that he has most definitely earned this, through his hard work and his dedicated service to the police department and community,” Towamencin Police Chief Tim Troxel said.
According to Troxel, Wood began his career with the department in August 2006. He served as a patrol officer until 2010 when he earned an assignment to the department’s highway safety unit as a traffic safety officer. As a Highway Unit officer, Travis earned certification as a crash reconstructionist, which he uses to investigate crashes throughout the North Penn region, as he serves on the regional crash investigation team.
In 2012, Wood earned qualifications as a firearms trainer. He has since qualified in defensive tactics, less-lethal systems, and de-escalation tactics. He also serves as a field training officer for new arrivals into the department, according to the chief.
Wood earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Mansfield University and a master’s degree in homeland security from St. Joseph’s University. He also continued his training and professional skill development throughout his career at the department. He’s held the roles of officer in charge and acting sergeant, all of which allowed him to “[earn] both the respect and admiration of his peers, as well as several awards of recogniti8on for meritorious service to the police department and his community,” Troxel said.
“I’m thankful this time has come. It’s been a lot of hard work. I’m more a person that lets my work speak for what I do, so I hope to do a good job moving forward, and everyone will appreciate and understand why I deserve to have this position,” Wood said.
