School Bus Driver from North Wales Pleads Guilty to Child Porn Possession

A school bus driver living in North Wales Borough has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.

Daniel McCaulley, 55, entered a guilty plea Friday morning to two felony counts of possession of child pornography. Court records show two additional counts of possession of child pornography, as well as a count of criminal use of a communication facility, were dropped in exchange for his plea.

Sentencing was deferred to allow for a pre-sentencing background check, court records show.

Investigators with the Montgomery County Detective Bureau’s Special Victims Unit said they received a series of cybertips filed by Yahoo on May 25, 2021, from the Delaware County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, regarding 13 images of suspected child pornography. Investigators said all 13 images showed minor, unclothed children with all portions of their bodies in view.

According to the criminal complaint, investigators determined that McCaulley was the owner of the two accounts associated with the cybertips. They also determined that he was a school bus driver employed by First Student Inc., the report states.

McCaulley met with investigators the following day, at which point he confirmed ownership of the accounts, the report states. McCaulley also admitted to uploading and viewing the images that he referred to as “nudism and naturism photographs,” adding that he may have “went too far with [his] curiosity,” investigators said.

When asked why he would search and view the images, McCaulley allegedly told investigators that he thought the girls were “cute,” according to the report.

Investigators said McCaulley consented to a manual preview of his two Apple iPad devices, which showed minor children in bikinis as well as additional images of minors unclothed.

On June 14, 2021, a search warrant was obtained for the two Apple devices, which revealed another seven images of nude juvenile females, according to the complaint.

McCaulley was arraigned on July 20, 2021, by District Judge Deborah Lukens, who set bail at $5,000 cash. He was then moved to county jail after failing to post, however he was released on his own recognizance during a bail review the following day.

Court records show his bail was adjusted again to $1,000 unsecured. He is currently free while awaiting sentencing.

To date, North Penn Now has not received a response from First Student regarding if they were aware of the investigation and McCaulley’s arrest.
