Woman Threw Knife, Wounded Lansdale Man During Domestic Dispute, Police Say

A Scranton woman is facing charges after she allegedly threw a knife during a domestic dispute with the father of her child in Lansdale Borough, wounding the man and sending him to the hospital.

Yanitza Benitez-Rodriguez, 26, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault, possessing an instrument of crime, and related offenses, in connection with the June 25 incident. She is currently free on $25,000 unsecured bail.

Police were dispatched to the emergency room at Jefferson Lansdale Hospital at 5:32 p.m. for a report of a stabbing victim. The man said he was at his home at 5 p.m. when he got into an argument with Benitez-Rodriguez, at which point she reached for a knife and threw it at him, striking him on the left side of his body, according to charging documents.

The man told police he observed a lot of blood coming from his side, and subsequently drove himself to the hospital. Police described the injury as a one-inch laceration under the victim’s left armpit, caused by a 12-inch kitchen knife.

The victim then airlifted to Abington Memorial Hospital due to the injury and bleeding, police said.

Investigators arrived to the scene of the incident to search for Benitez-Rodriguez, however she was no longer on scene, the report states. Police recovered two 12-inch knives from the kitchen sink, according to the complaint.

Charges were filed against Benitez-Rodriguez the following day, however she was not taken into custody until Aug. 3. Her next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Sept. 7 in front of District Judge Ed Levine.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause. This story was updated to reflect the child's current custody status.
