Upcycling Nonprofit Furniture Store to Host Open House in Lansdale Next Month

An open-house event for a new nonprofit furniture store will be held in Lansdale on Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Dubbed “Home on Main,” the store provides a unique shopping experience of new and antique furniture, as well as various locally made items. It is an extension of the nonprofit, Marvin’s Home, founded by Mel McDaniel. The profits will go toward Marvin’s Home. It will be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, starting Sept. 10. Hours will expand as they are available.

The event will begin with a pancake breakfast starting at 9 a.m. and jerk chicken will be avalable for lunch and dinner. There will be activities for kids, including yoga and arts & crafts. There will be raffles every hour, which will be $1 per ticket, and music. Food and drinks will be free, but donations are welcome.

The schedule for the day will be posted on the Marvin’s Home Instagram and Facebook as it gets closer to the day of the event.

Marvin’s Home held a grand opening event in May and has since been taking in donations and continuing their installs to furnish homes. As of July 20, they have had 30 installs.

“Since we came to the space, which was in May, we have had an incredible amount of community support,” McDaniel said. “We've been meeting with other businesses and nonprofits and just expanding our connections.”

The open house is an opportunity for those in the community or in surrounding communities to see the space.

“We're so excited to be in this space and in Lansdale,” McDaniel said. “We're so grateful for all the people who have welcomed us, and we just want to have this day be a day where the community feels welcomed into Home on Main and [see] what we're trying to do at Marvin's home.”
