A dog is dead and a Lansdale family has been displaced from their home following a fire on East Fourth Street early Monday morning.
Fairmount Fire Company was dispatched to the 100 block of East Fourth Street at 3:55 a.m. for a report of a residential fire. Arriving crews encountered heavy fire showing from one side of a twin home, with smoke extending to the other side of the residence.
According to Fairmount Fire Company Chief Gavin Butler, the fire caused heavy damage throughout one side of the twin home, displacing the family and killing their dog. The other side of the twin suffered significant smoke damage, but Butler said they will be able to return to their home.
All occupants of the homes made it out safely, and no injuries were reported among the firefighters on scene. A family member from the neighboring home later collapsed on scene and was taken to a local hospital for observation, Butler said.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Fire service personnel remained on scene as of 8:30 a.m.
Fairmount Fire Company was assisted at the scene by Lansdale Borough Police, Volunteer Medical Service Corps and several other area fire companies.
