Rep. Malagari, Sen. Collett Announce $2 Million in Funding for Mennonite Homes

State Sen. Maria Collett and state Rep. Steve Malagari have announced $2 million in funding has been approved for improvements to the Souderton Mennonite Homes – Senior Living Community.

“I’m proud to see state dollars headed back to our community for this important project to help renovate the living spaces, as well as provide more effective common spaces and amenities for residents,” Malagari said.

Gov. Tom Wolf signed the approval for the funds Friday afternoon, utilizing the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program

The funds will provide for the Souderton Mennonite Homes facility, with 38,500 square feet of new construction and 13,000 square feet of renovation. It will maintain the existing bed count while transitioning to fully private rooms. It will build 18- and 26-bed additions, and existing rooms and interior spaces will be reconfigured. Other improvements include: a new entrance, installation of elevators, landscape lighting, an emergency electrical generator, new power service, asphalt paving, resident unit flooring, and resident unit HVAC.

“As a nurse and the Democratic Chair of the Senate Aging & Youth Committee, I am particularly proud to have been able to secure funding for this project, which will allow Souderton Mennonite homes to modernize and expand their facilities with an emphasis on the health and safety of their residents and staff,” Collett said. “We can’t forget the important role our seniors and those who care for them play in our communities.”
