Rep. Malagari Announces $2.5M in Funding for North Penn YMCA

(The following information was provided by the office of state Rep. Steve Malagari.)

State Rep. Steve Malagari has announced a $2.5 million grant for the expansion of the North Penn YMCA Lansdale Branch.

“Working alongside local stakeholders, we were able to see the lack of indoor gymnasium space as well as the potential benefits of providing it for our community,” Malagari said. “After writing a letter of support, detailing the benefits this project could create – including advancing many of the valuable programs already taking place at the North Penn YMCA – I’m pleased to see the state has earmarked funds to make this project a reality.”

Gov. Tom Wolf signed the approval for the funds Friday afternoon, utilizing the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

The funds will allow for the implementation of the plan to add a full-size gymnasium, clearing the way for activities that could be geared toward the interests for the youth, seniors and young adults throughout the community. Future uses of the gym could be used for basketball, pickleball and badminton, all three sports supported by the Lansdale and North Penn region by its residents.

The North Penn YMCA Lansdale branch provides complimentary memberships for seventh graders who attend school within ¼-mile from the facility, providing potentially at-risk youth a free and stable after-school and weekend option at a critical point in their development. It is also located within close proximity to 60 senior apartments, North Penn Commons.
