Hilltown Township Police are investigating an attempted retail theft from the Home Depot on Route 113 that was ultimately thwarted by an off-duty police officer, who was able to recover the merchandise.
Police were called to the Hilltown Plaza Shopping Center on the afternoon of March 25 for a report of an attempted retail theft. Investigators learned that a male and female suspect entered the store around 2:40 p.m. and proceeded to select more than $1,100 worth of DeWalt power tools, which they placed into their cart and then exited the store without paying.
As the suspects made their way through the parking lot, an off-duty police officer realized what was happening and prevented the suspects from taking the merchandize. The suspects then entered a tan or light gold, smaller foreign make vehicle with tinted windows and fled the scene.
Investigators said its possible a second male suspect was waiting as the driver inside of the vehicle.
Anyone with information regarding the suspects, their identification or whereabouts is asked to contact Officer James T. Browne via email at [email protected]. Tips can also be sent anonymously by clicking here.
North Penn Now is aware of the identity of the off-duty officer, however when we reached them for comment, they kindly asked that we withhold their identity. We then agreed to respect their wishes.
