Child Playing ‘Treasure Hunt’ Finds Grenade, Mortar Tips and Fuses in Perkasie Back Yard, Report Says

A local boy made an explosive discovery over the weekend while playing “treasure hunt” outside of his home in Perkasie, Bucks County.

According to a report from David Chang at NBC10, a 7-year-old boy was playing in his backyard along the 500 block of Middle Road around noon on Sunday when he discovered a box containing a hand grenade, mortar tips and fuses. Police told NBC10 that based off an X-ray, the grenade appeared to be empty and a non-threat.

Hilltown Police Chief Chris Engelhart stated that it could not be determined if the mortar tips and fuses were safe, the report states.

After consulting with military officials, the Ordnance Disposal Unit from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confiscated the items. Englehart told NBC10 that there was no threat to the public and there were no evacuations, according to the report.
