Lansdale Police Renew Calls for Information in 2005 Homicide at Memorial Park

It has now been 16 years since the body 49-year-old Michael Ewer was found beaten to death in a dugout at Memorial Park, and investigators are again renewing their calls for information that will lead to the identity and arrest of the person responsible for Ewer’s death.

On Oct. 20, 2005, at 1:49 p.m., Lansdale Borough Police were dispatched to Memorial Park for a report of a body that was found inside of the visitor’s dugout at the baseball field. Upon arrival, police located a deceased white male — later identified as Ewer — who had suffered a massive head injury while inside of a sleeping bag on the dugout floor. Police said it appeared that Ewer was sleeping at the time of the attack, and an autopsy later determined the cause of death as blunt force trauma and manner of death as a homicide.

Initially, the Montgomery County District Attorney offered a $1,000 reward. However, in October 2020, a joint effort between the Lansdale Borough Police Department and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office increased the reward to $5,000, with district attorney Kevin Steele saying that sometimes a seemingly small fact that someone remembers might be helpful to detectives as they work to find the killer and clear this murder.

“Please call detectives and share any detail about that day or the overnight hours around the baseball field,” said Steele. “We want to find Michael’s murderer and bring justice to this family that has been grieving for 15 years. Do the right thing and share anything you know.”

The investigation remains active at this time. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Lansdale Borough Police Department at 215-368-1801 or the Montgomery County Detective Bureau at 610-278-3368.
