A Souderton man has been identified among six people arrested in connection with a multi-county drug trafficking ring, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
Javier Berrios, 50, has been charged with corrupt organizations, possession with intent to distribute, conspiracy, dealing in the proceeds of unlawful activities, criminal use of a communication facility and related offenses — including firearms charges — in connection with the investigation. Berrios is currently being held at county jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.
Others arrested include Robert McMillion III, 44, of Quakertown, as well as Hannibal Harvey, 47; Odongo Harvey, 50; Sharon Jones, 51; and Glendel Young, 40, all of Philadelphia.
According to the district attorney’s office, law enforcement learned that Berrios and McMillion were working together to sell a “significant amount” of cocaine in Souderton and throughout Montgomery County. Investigators said they then determined that Berrios was being supplied by Hannibal Harvey, with the scope of the operation encompassing parts of Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.
Further investigation determined that McMillion and some of his employees — including Jones — were using ambulances from McMillion’s Colmar-based business, Preferred Medical Transport, to transport cocaine and facilitate drug deliveries, according to the 227-page criminal complaint.
The investigation was spearheaded by the Montgomery County Detective Bureau’s Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Hatfield Township Police Department and the district attorney’s local drug task force. The investigation included extensive surveillance and cell phone analysis, along with controlled drug purchases, witness interviews and numerous search warrants.
By the conclusion of the investigation, investigators had seized six pounds of cocaine, two pounds of marijuana, three handguns and approximately $15,000 in cash, investigators said.
“The investigation resulting in these six arrests shut off a significant pipeline for cocaine in Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, and our county is safer for it,” said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele. “Law enforcement in Montgomery County, partnered with the Attorney General Shapiro’s team, are committed to stopping the flow of poison in Montgomery County—whether that poison is significant quantities of cocaine or heroin/fentanyl or methamphetamine.”
“Our collaborative efforts shut down this drug trafficking ring and will help keep this poison off the streets of Montgomery County and Philadelphia,” said Attorney General Josh Shapiro. “I’m thankful for our partners in Montgomery County and for our shared commitment to stopping these dangerous operations and keeping Pennsylvanians safe.”
All six defendants will have their preliminary hearings on Oct. 19 at 1:15 p.m. in front of District Judge Andrea Duffy. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Lindsey Mills and Evan Correia.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
