4-H Club Volunteer Leader Receives Award from Towamencin DAR

Amy Kriebel, of Harleysville, was presented with the Community Service Award by the Towamencin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) at their Oct. 9 meeting. She was honored for her efforts as a 4-H Club volunteer leader in equestrian education.

With the aid of her herd of six miniature horses, Kriebel provides children in 4-H the opportunity to learn about the work involved in caring for and showing horses. And, in doing so, she helps the children to gain confidence, feel compassion, and take responsibility. She also has facilitated programs for children who are bullied or with special needs to help them develop courage and self-esteem by showing and bonding with her “minis.”

Kriebel became a volunteer leader in 2010 and has been active in Montgomery County 4-H Programs throughout her life, beginning with membership as a young girl in the Bits & Pieces Horse Club. An accomplished equestrian, Ms. Kriebel has volunteered at therapeutic riding stables in past years.
