Local Woman Killed After Being Struck by Pickup Truck in Towamencin

A local woman was killed on Sunday afternoon after being struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Allentown and Forty Foot roads in Towamencin Township.

First responders were dispatched to the scene at 2:11 p.m. on Oct. 3 for a report of a vehicle crash. Upon arrival, police found that a Toyota Tundra — driven by a 46-year-old male from Norristown — had struck a female pedestrian. Details regarding how the crash occurred remain under investigation, however Towamencin Police Chief Tim Troxel said it “appears to be a tragic accident.”

The victim — a 78-year-old female from Lansdale — was pronounced dead at the scene. Though police have notified the victim’s immediate family, they are withholding the victim’s name to allow the family to make additional notifications, Troxel said.

Troxel said the driver of the Toyota remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

“[A] determination on [charges being filed] will not be made until the investigation is completed and we have full details and the crash reconstruction finished,” Troxel said.

The intersection remained closed until approximately 5:56 p.m., Troxel said, as crash scene investigators processed the scene. Towamencin Police were assisted by officers from the Hatfield Township Police Department, Volunteer Medical Service Corps, Towamencin Fire Company and fire police from Towamencin and Harleysville fire companies.
