Man Arrested After Crashing Stolen Vehicle Over 12 Foot Retaining Wall in Montgomery Township, Police Say

A Warminster Township man is facing charges after he allegedly drove a stolen vehicle off of a 12-foot retaining wall in Montgomery Township early last week.

Jacob Crespo, 40, has been charged with one felony count of receiving stolen property and misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, in connection with the incident.

Police said they became aware of the stolen vehicle around 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 8, and encountered the vehicle traveling southbound along the 900 block of Bethlehem Pike at 11:08 a.m. As police began to the follow the vehicle, it made several hard turns and traveled over a grass median onto property belonging to the Fire Department of Montgomery Township, according to the criminal complaint.

Police briefly lost the vehicle, but quickly found it disabled in the Ocean State Job Lot parking lot, where it was determined that the stolen vehicle had traveled through the grass and over a 12-foot retaining wall, police said. A male driver – later identified as Crespo — and a female passenger both survived the crash unharmed, and both were seen walking away from the vehicle at the time police arrived, according to the complaint.

Investigators said Crespo stated he was surprised when he drove off the retaining wall, adding that he didn’t know it was there.

The report states that a records check revealed that Crespo had active arrest warrants from the Stroud Area Regional Police Department, Warwick Township Police Department, Warminster Township Police Department and Upper Moreland Township Police Department. Additionally, police retrieved a bag of heroin from the female’s purse, which Crespo took ownership of, the report states.

Crespo was arraigned later that day by District Judge Andrea Duffy, who set bail at $2,500 cash. He was then taken to county jail after failing to post bail, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Dec. 7 at 1:45 p.m. in front of Judge Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
