Photos: Local Boy Scout Troop Celebrates 100th Anniversary

Boy Scout Troop 51 in Hatfield Township celebrated their pandemic-delayed 100-year Anniversary last month with an open house at their scout cabin on 2150 Koffel Road. In attendance were current and former scouts and leaders — some from as far back as the 1950s — as well as dignitaries from all levels of government, representatives from the American Legion and Cradle of Liberty Council. The troop would like to thank Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, state Rep. Steve Malagari, state Senator Maria Collett, the Hatfield Township Commissioners, Hatfield Borough and the Hatfield American Legion, who honored the troop with two United States flags that flew over the US and PA Capitols as well as several citations and plaques.

Troop 51 was founded in 1920 and is sponsored by the Hatfield American Legion Post 933. Over the past 101 years, the Troop has provided quality scouting programs to thousands of young men in our community. The ideals of scouting remain as relevant today as they did 100 years ago, when Troop 51 was founded. With currently over 65 scouts and more than 30 adult leaders, they have a very active year-round program that features interesting troop meetings, exciting camping trips, a strong high adventure program for older scouts, and many leadership and learning opportunities.

The program strives to achieve the Aims of Scouting: character development, citizenship training, and mental and personal fitness. We do this through the ideals found in the scout oath, law, motto, and leadership development. Scouts learn to become independent leaders who can use the life skills gained through Scouting in all aspects of their lives.
