Peter Wentz Farmstead Announces Upcoming Fall Events

(The following is a release from the Montgomery County Office of Communications.)

The Peter Wentz Farmstead has released details on two exciting upcoming fall events at its historic site in Worcester Township

Preserving the Harvest

Saturday, Nov. 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., $2 suggested donation

Join the Peter Wentz Farmstead in a time before supermarkets or refrigeration, before same-day delivery or curbside pick-up. Winters were harsh in the 18th century, and unable to grow crops in the cold weather, families like the Wentz’ needed to be prepared. On Nov. 13, meet living history interpreters as they demonstrate the various ways colonial farm families had to prepare and preserve their harvest for winter, including open-hearth cooking, smoking meat, cider-pressing, and more! The event will also feature demonstrations of wool culturing, basket-making, and joinery. At 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. visitors can watch the property oxen, Peg and Sam, pull a cart around the property

Annual Candlelight Tours

Friday, Dec. 3, 5 p.m., Registration required, $2 suggested donation

Join the historic Peter Wentz Farmstead for the return of its annual Candlelight Tours! This year the event will offer tours of the first floor of the historic house by pre-registration only, allowing visitors to experience a winter’s night on a colonial farm. Even without a ticket for the house tour, several outdoor activities can be enjoyed even without a ticket for the house tour. Visitors can watch a campfire cooking demonstration, chat with Revolutionary War soldiers from the 6th Pennsylvania Regiment and listen to stories from the Eastern Woodland Nations told by Lenape historian Darius Puff. As the site prepares for the holiday season, you may run into our Belsnickel looking for misbehaved children while the Colonial Revelers entertain guests with 18th century Christmas carols

In accordance with County policy, all visitors, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a mask while inside any buildings on the property. Wearing a mask outdoors is not required, but strongly recommended
