A Rockledge Borough man is facing charges after he allegedly stole a dirt bike from the Montgomeryville Cycle Center last week, then fled the scene riding the wrong way down Bethlehem Pike.
Allen Thompson, 27, has been charged with felony counts of retail theft, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia and summary counts of driving the wrong way and classes of license, in connection with the Nov. 3 incident.
Hilltown Police were dispatched to the 2900 block of Bethlehem Pike around 5 p.m. on Nov. 3 for a report of a vehicle theft. Dispatch informed police that the suspect — later identified as Thompson — had entered the store and pushed a new, blue Yamaha dirt bike out of the store, according to the release of the incident.
Police said once Thompson had the bike outside, he started it and fled the scene against traffic on Bethlehem Pike. Approximately 30 minutes later, a passing motorist in Hatfield Township reported a suspicious person — later identified as Thompson — on a dirt bike at the intersection of School and Orvilla roads, and police responded and took him into custody.
Thompson was arraigned that evening by District Judge Jean Seaman, who set bail at 10% of $75,000 cash. Thompson was then taken to the Bucks County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.
Court records indicate that Thompson’s bail was reduced on Nov. 9 to 10% of $5,000 cash, however he still remains in custody. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. in front of District Judge Regina Armitage.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
