Montco Man Arrested After Investigators Find 3 Pounds of Meth, $100,000 Cash During Drug Raid, Police Say

John Devivo, 56, of Bala Cynwyd.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office announced the “significant arrest” of a suspected methamphetamine dealer on Thursday afternoon, adding he was allegedly found to be in possession of three pounds of methamphetamine and $100,000 cash at the time of the arrest.

John Devivo, 56, of Bala Cynwyd, has been charged with felony possession with intent to distribute, along with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, in connection with the investigation.

“This was a significant arrest of a major methamphetamine trafficker, and his arrest will make Montgomery County a safer place,” said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele. “We are seeing an increase in methamphetamine usage in Montgomery County, and in overdose deaths caused by methamphetamine and by methamphetamine adulterated with fentanyl. The message is clear: whether it’s opioids, heroin, fentanyl or methamphetamine, don’t peddle poisons in Montgomery County.”

Police said they served a search warrant at Devivo’s home on Academy Road on May 19, where he lived with his elderly parents and other family members. In addition to the cash and methamphetamine, investigators said they also found drug packaging materials and digital scales.

The street value of the recovered methamphetamine was $30,000, investigators said.

Devivo was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Karen Eisner Zucker, who set bail at $250,000 cash. He was then remanded to county jail after failing to post. His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 28 at 10 a.m.

The investigation was conducted by members of the Montgomery County Detective Bureau, Pennsylvania State Police, Lower Merion Police and Delaware County Criminal Investigations. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Danton Moyer.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
