A Telford woman is accused of stealing an elderly woman’s wallet at Whole Foods and then using the woman’s credit card to make nearly $300 worth of cigarette and gasoline purchases.
Jaclyn Warrington, 35, has been charged with misdemeanor counts of access device fraud, theft by deception and receiving stolen property, in connection with the investigation. She is currently at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of 10% of $5,000 cash bail.
Police said they received a report from the 73-year-old victim on April 7, stating that while she was checking out at the Whole Foods in Spring House the previous day, she noticed that her wallet was missing from her purse and she believed someone had stolen it. The victim added that the wallet’s contents included $200 in cash along with three credit cards and her personal documents.
In the hours after the victim’s trip to Whole Foods, she noted unusual activity on one of her credit cards, police said. The transactions included a $281.06 purchase from a Wawa in Philadelphia, along with a $17.50 transaction at a Speedway Gas Station in Philadelphia, according to the criminal complaint.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from Whole Foods and noticed a woman — later identified as Warrington — lingering near the victim’s cart and looking through the victim’s purse, police said. Additional surveillance footage from the Wawa where the victim’s card was used showed Warrington purchasing two cartons of cigarettes and a gift card, before leaving and going to the nearby Speedway Gas Station to purchase gasoline, the report states.
On April 30, Warrington turned herself into the Lower Gwynedd Police Department and took full responsibility for theft of the wallet and using the victim’s credit card, police said. She would later be arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Suzan Leonard on May 19.
Warrington’s next court appearance is a preliminary hearing in front of Judge Leonard on May 27 at 2 p.m.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
