A hen and her 11 ducklings are safe and sound, thanks to the committed efforts of the Upper Gwynedd Township Police and Public Works departments.
Police said that Officer Dana Hallam, Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Rebecca Mason and others spent six hours on Tuesday morning working to rescue nearly a dozen ducklings that had fallen into a storm pipe located at the intersection of Haines Drive and Paddock Circle. The first 10 ducklings were rescued fairly easily, however the 11th duckling was located in a 250-foot stretch of pipe between inlets, police said.
The group used the wastewater treatment plant’s pipe cameras to locate and rescue the last duckling.
“After some bruised elbows for Mason, spiders in the hair of Officer Hallam and long hours put in by the entire crew, we have a new family of Upper Gwynedd resident ducks,” said the police department. “Hopefully they have found a safe place to call home.”
