DUI Charges Levied After Man Drives 100 MPH in Antique Monte Carlo, Police Say

Joseph Scoles, 23, of Harleysville, was charged with felony fleeing along with misdemeanor DUI and reckless endangerment on May 1, after police said he was operating an antique Monte Carlo SS at a high rate of speed while under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol.

Police said they observed Scoles’ vehicle traveling at an estimated speed of 100 miles-per-hour on Forty Foot Road, and despite their repeated attempts to initiate a traffic stop, Scoles continued to travel throughout various roads in Towamencin Township. Scoles was finally stopped by police after they pulled up next to him a stop light and shouted at him to pull over, according to the criminal complaint.

A portable breath test showed that Scoles had a blood-alcohol content of .052% and police discovered an open can of White Claw inside of the vehicle, however Scoles refused to provide a blood sample for testing, the report states. Scoles admitted to also taking Benadryl, and police said they believed a combination of the Benadryl, Scoles’ heart medication and the alcohol placed him into a state of “poly-drug intoxication,” according to the complaint.

Police said the assault was precipitated by an argument between Yorgey and the victim. The victim’s left eye was red and puffy, according to police. Police said Swist understood that he was trespassing, but he wanted cigarettes. The report states that Swist was charged because it was a repeat offense. Lamb Foundation personnel arrived on scene and were informed that Swist would be criminally charged, the report states.

Swist was removed from the property without being taken into custody, and he was informed that should he go to that location in the future, he would be charged again, according to the complaint.
