Intoxicated Chipotle Employee Arrested After Waiving Knife at Staff and Customers, Police Say

An employee at the Chipotle Mexican Grill on Dekalb Pike in Whitpain Township was arrested last Wednesday after he allegedly waived a knife at customers and fellow employees while under the influence of alcohol.

Police were dispatched to the restaurant at 8:02 p.m. on May 12 for a report of an armed subject. The caller told county dispatch that a male employee — later identified as 49-year-old Robert Seapoe, of Darby — was possibly intoxicated on an unknown substance and was waiving a knife around, according to the criminal complaint.

The caller stated that numerous employees and customers feared for their safety and fled the scene, the report states. Police arrived at the scene and located Seapoe standing in the rear of the kitchen area. When asked what happened, Seapoe’s speech was incoherent and slurred, police said.

Due to the nature of the call, as well as Seapoe being intoxicated and uncooperative, police attempted to place him into custody, the report states. However, Seapoe actively resisted being handcuffed and also bit one of the responding officers on the left shoulder, police said.

The report states that Seapoe was eventually placed into custody, though it took multiple officers to place him into the rear of one of the patrol vehicles. Seapoe’s drinking cup was located, which smelled of alcohol, police said.

As a result of the incident, Seapoe was charged with misdemeanor counts of attempted simple assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, as well as summary counts of harassment and public drunkenness.

Seapoe was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Suzan Leonard, who set bail at 10% of $10,000 cash. He was then taken to county jail after failing to post, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on May 27 at 12:30 p.m. in front of Judge Leonard.

A manager with Chipotle Mexican Grill told North Penn Now that Seapoe’s employment is in the process of being terminated.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
