Do you ever feel a bit evil? But do you also wish to live in a world that is “better together?” If so, tune in this weekend for the streamed performances of North Penn High School (NPHS) Theatre and Thespian Troupe’s production of Disney’s Descendants, the Musical.
Disney’s Descendants franchise was a major phenomena when it hit TV screens all over the world. The movies introduced a whole new generation of enjoyable characters and songs descended from classic Disney stories and fairy tales. Disney’s Descendants, the Musical is full of fun, lively music that will remind you of all the childhood stories you loved and the continuation of those stories through the children of our favorite characters.
NPHS theatre students from grades 10 through 12 have been working tirelessly since March to bring the magic to the screen. The students put in countless hours that went into bringing the characters of Mal, Evie, Jay, Carlos, Ben and a whole host of villains to life — those you love to hate and Auradonians you love to love.
Prince Ben (Eric Lewis, junior), feels the pressure building as he is soon to be crowned king, allowing his father The Beast (Nick Bressler, junior) to retire. Wanting to make a real change, he invites some children of famous villains, now exiled to the Isle of the Lost, to come join him and the children of the “good” fairy tale characters at their school on Auradon. You’ve heard about their parents, Maleficent (Olivia Greco, senior), Jafar (Nick Nardone, sophomore), Evil Queen Grimhilde (Ella Notte, sophomore), and Cruella De Vil (Genesys Perez-Berrios, junior). Now it’s time for their children, known as “The Evils”, to try to behave in the civilized world. Mal (Fiona Hodgson, junior), Jay (Keenan Washington, senior), Evie (Ally Wolfe, junior), and Carlos (Jeremy DerMovsesian, senior) must try to fill in their parents’ shoes -- or will they since they are “Rotten to the Core”. Sent into the Auradon world of princesses and princes, these mischievous teens must find out if “Good is the New Bad” or if they will be “Better Together”. Which side will they choose?
“Be Our Guest” as we celebrate 50 years of NPHS Theatre with a show like no other in the past half century of quality high school shows. Enjoy “almost live” theatre as you sit in the comfort of your home. Delight in this refreshing musical with a message that “we are stronger side by side” as you sit side by side with your family. Toast the talents of some amazing young performers and technical crew members who created this musical in six weeks to share with our community. And consider supporting your favorite local restaurants with “take out dinner and show!” Theatre’s back — almost live and certainly well — at North Penn High School. Pop that popcorn, cuddle up in your favorite chair, and join us!
