North Montco Technical Career Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week in order to celebrate their new Mechatronics classroom.

Work on the new classroom began last year and the equipment was moved and installed this year. The Mechatronics program at North Montco has continued to grow, leading to an increased waiting list of students. The new, larger classroom — with state-of-the-art equipment — will allow more students to have the opportunity to train in this field and work on the equipment in this program.

The Mechatronics program offered at North Montco provides a synergistic approach to the understanding of principles in the engineering field. The program focuses on mechatronics engineering technology, which is a multidisciplinary field where workers design, troubleshoot, maintain and repair sophisticated automated equipment through a systems approach. Students will perform activities and obtain fundamental knowledge in the following areas: electrical, electronics, robotics, mechanical systems, fluid power systems, programmable logic controllers, control systems, and mechatronics.

Engineers and technicians with training in mechatronic systems have the greatest career mobility across technical disciplines.
