The Hilltown Township Police Department has issued a public warning following a series of reports indicating that political signs have been stolen.
Police said the thefts are unacceptable, and anyone caught stealing signs will be charged with theft by unlawful taking — a third-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison and/or a $2,500 fine.
“We want to again remind the public that these thefts are unacceptable,” the department said in their release. “We will not tolerate criminal activity perpetrated to support of suppress a particular cause, opinion or candidate.”
