Former Lacrosse Instructor Facing New Sex Assault Charges After 2 Victims Report Abuse, Police Say

John Mallozzi, 21, of Horsham.

In August 2019, North Penn Now published an article on a 20-year-old lacrosse instructor who was charged with criminal solicitation of child pornography and dissemination of explicit sexual material to a minor, stemming from an alleged series of inappropriate contacts the instructor had made with several of his female students on social media and Snapchat.

Like many court cases in Montgomery County, the proceedings have been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the case has yet to be resolved at county court. However, in looking for the defendant’s next court date, North Penn Now discovered that another set of charges — pertaining to the alleged sexual assault of two female victims — was filed against him earlier this year by the Horsham Township Police Department.

Court documents indicate that investigators officially filed charges against 21-year-old John Mallozzi, of the unit block of Paddock Circle, on Jan. 21, 2021, including two felony counts of aggravated indecent assault, four misdemeanor counts of indecent assault and two summary counts of harassment.

According to the criminal complaint, Horsham Township Police were contacted by a female victim in October 2020 who stated that she was sexually assaulted by Mallozzi on June 26, 2020. The victim told police that she had given a ride to Mallozzi — who was allegedly intoxicated at the time — but when she stopped in front of his home, Mallozzi allegedly unbuckled both of their seatbelts and proceeded to sexually assault the victim, the report states.

The victim stated that despite her efforts to resist and repeatedly telling Mallozzi to stop, he proceeded to sexually assault the victim for more than seven minutes, police said.

The criminal complaint states that as police were continuing their investigation into the incident involving the first victim, a second victim came forward in late-December 2020 to report that she had also been sexually assaulted by Mallozzi in January 2016 — when the victim was 13 years old.

In that incident, the victim told police that Mallozzi had offered to give her a ride home from work, however Mallozzi instead allegedly drove her to the Hatboro-Horsham High School parking lot where he forced himself on her for approximately five minutes, the report states.

The second victim told police that Mallozzi ignored her pleas to stop, according to the complaint.

Mallozzi was taken into custody on Jan. 21 and arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Harry Nesbitt III, who set bail at $10,000 cash. The following day, bail was posted for Mallozzi and he was freed from custody. Mallozzi also remains free on $10,000 unsecured bail from his first set of charges from August 2019.

Court records indicate that all charges were held against Mallozzi at his preliminary hearing, and his next court appearance is a formal arraignment in front of Judge Steven O’Neill at the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas on April 14 at 1:45 p.m.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
