Amidst a backdrop of balloons, music, friends and family, Lansdale’s Margaret “Peg” Leichthammer celebrated her 105th birthday at Elm Terrace Gardens on Tuesday afternoon.
The celebration was held outside near the facility’s gazebo, which gave perfect viewing of a parade of vehicles from the Lansdale Borough Police Department and Fairmount Fire Company who wanted to pay tribute to Leichthammer on her special day.
Lansdale Mayor Garry Herbert also got in on the festivities, offering Leichthammer an official proclamation on behalf of the borough. The proclamation reads, in full:
WHEREAS, Peg Leichthammer is celebrating her 105th birthday this year. Born on March 23, 1916, in Brooklyn, NY, she moved to the Norristown/East Norriton area early in her life; and
WHEREAS, in 1942, Peg refused to let a car accident bring her down as she married Frank in her pajamas while recovering from an auto accident; and
WHEREAS, Peg exemplified her love of life by spending summers in New Hampshire and enjoying the roses there; and
WHEREAS, Longevity of life is a blessing for an individual and the Lansdale community has benefitted from Peg’s knowledge, creativity and experience since she moved to Elm Terrace in 1994; and
