Montgomery Township Police are continuing to investigate a two-vehicle crash that sent a 22-year-old Hatfield man to the hospital on Saturday afternoon.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Bethlehem Pike and Vilsmeier Road at 3:39 p.m. on March 20, and involved a Chevrolet Malibu and a Hyosung motorcycle. Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that the Malibu encroached the path of the motorcycle as the vehicle turned left onto northbound Bethlehem Pike from Vilsmeier Road.
The victim, whom police said was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was transported from the scene via ambulance to Abington Main for treatment. Montgomery Township Police Chief Scott Bendig told North Penn Now that the injuries were non-life threatening.
As a result of the crash, Bethlehem Pike was closed in both directions from Doylestown Pike to North Wales Road for a period of one hour. In addition to Montgomery Township Police, fire police units from the Fire Department of Montgomery Township, Colmar Fire Company, Horsham Fire Company and North Penn Fire Company assisted at the scene.
Units from the Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale handled the transport of the victim, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, Bendig said. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Officer Peter Byrne, of the Montgomery Township Police Department’s Highway Safety Unit, at 215-362-2301.
