The North Penn School District (NPSD) Board of School Directors appointed Dr. D’Ana Waters as assistant superintendent at its action meeting on Thursday.
Dr. Waters and current assistant superintendent Dr. Todd Bauer will work together, and in conjunction with the NPSD Superintendent Dr. Curt Dietrich, on the oversight of both instructional and other related needs of the school district. As NPSD works to successfully execute its current strategic plan, it has remained clear that two assistant superintendents are necessary. With the multitude of goals to be accomplished and the size of the school district, Dr. Dietrich and the school board agree the responsibilities need to be shared by the two positions to propel NPSD forward.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. D'Ana Waters served as the NPSD Director of Curriculum and Equity since July 2019. In this role, she led the district’s cultural proficiency and equity efforts through a collaborative process, removing barriers in curriculum and instruction in support of marginalized students and partners with parents to alleviate equity-related concerns.
Dr. Waters has worked for North Penn since 1995 at Oak Park and Hatfield elementary schools, Penndale Middle School and currently the Educational Services Center. She began her journey in 1995 at Hatfield Elementary School as an English as a Second Language Assistant. In 1996, Dr. Waters moved to Oak Park Elementary School where she taught until 2005, when she became an Intervention Specialist and Assistant to the Principal at Penndale Middle School. Dr. Waters then returned to her roots in 2008 as Principal of Hatfield Elementary School. During her time there, she achieved many accolades including the Superintendent’s Honor Roll Award in 2018.
In addition to her involvement in countless committees and initiatives, Dr. Waters most recently serves as co-chair of NPSD’s Cultural Proficiency Committee.
Dr. Waters earned her bachelor’s degree in Speech Communications from West Chester University. She then earned her master’s degree in Elementary Education at Beaver College and her School Administration K-12 Certification from the University of Pennsylvania. Waters continued-on to earn her doctorate in Educational Leadership from Immaculata University, where she now serves on the Dissertation Committee as needed.
“I feel honored and excited to take on this role and look forward to serving our students, staff, and community in a greater capacity,” Dr. Waters said. “I am grateful to Dr. Dietrich and our School Board Directors for this opportunity and appreciate the confidence they have in me. I love working in North Penn and am proud to be starting yet another journey here.”
