Police Officer, Subject in Custody Taken to Hospital Following Wednesday Night Crash in Towamencin

A police-involved crash occurred at the intersection of Allentown and Forty Foot roads in Towamencin Township on Wednesday night, leading to minor injuries and an hours-long lane closure on Forty Foot Road.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, first responders were dispatched to the intersection of Allentown and Forty Foot roads at 9:51 p.m. for a report of a two-vehicle crash. Towamencin Township Police Chief Tim Troxel confirmed to North Penn Now that the crash involved a Souderton Borough Police patrol vehicle and a tractor trailer, with both vehicles needing to be towed from the scene.

Troxel also confirmed that the officer operating the patrol vehicle was in the process of transporting a subject who was in police custody to Lansdale Hospital at the time of the crash.

As of 12:05 a.m. on Thursday, the scene remained active and one lane of Forty Foot Road remained closed, as first responders and PennDOT crews worked to remedy a diesel fuel spill that was related to the crash.

Troxel added that the crash investigation is ongoing, and no further details are currently available. The nature of the injuries, as well as to whom they occurred, was not provided by police. However, Troxel did state that preliminary reports from the scene indicated the injuries were “very minor.”

Towamencin Township Police were assisted at the scene by units from the Towamencin Volunteer Fire Company, Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale, PennDOT and other area agencies.

North Penn Now has reached out to Souderton Borough Police Chief Brian Newhall for additional details, as well as an update on the conditions of the officer and the subject that was in custody.
