A pair of men from Allentown were arrested on drug charges last week following a traffic stop on Bethlehem Pike in Montgomery Township.
According to the criminal complaint, Montgomery Township Police conducted a vehicle stop of a silver Acura RDX along the 600 block of Bethlehem Pike at 5:04 p.m. on March 8. Police said the vehicle had been tinted to a degree that it violated the Pennsylvania Inspection Code.
Upon making contact with the driver — identified as 33-year-old Sean Dougherty — and the passenger — identified as 34-year-old Emmanuel Valle — police said they suspected the pair was involved in criminal activity and requested to search the vehicle, the report states.
Police said Dougherty consented to the search, at which point he and Valle exited the vehicle. Valle then consented to a search of his pockets, which revealed an empty cocaine vial and a cut straw with powdery residue, according to the report.
Police also revered two bundles of heroin and a spoon from Dougherty’s jacket, as well as $1,800 cash that was located in a small red bag on the passenger’s side of the vehicle, the report states. Both Dougherty and Valle were taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery Township Police Department, according to the complaint.
Once Valle was placed into a holding cell, police conducted a second search of his person, which allegedly revealed an additional 20 bundles of heroin along with distribution materials and a sandwich bag containing an unknown white powdery substance, the report states.
As a result of the traffic stop:
Both men were arraigned later that evening by Magisterial District Judge Juanita Price, who set bail for both men at $25,000 unsecured. Both Dougherty and Valle were then released from custody, and their next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on June 1 at 1:45 p.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
