On March 23, North Montco Technical Career Center (NMTCC) will officially launch the North Montco Technical Career Center Educational Foundation, a 501(C) 3 nonprofit, to serve the technical school.
Business leaders and community members leading this endeavor support goals of North Montco and its students.
The mission of the NMTCC Educational Foundation is to encourage innovation and teaching excellence by providing funding opportunities for new initiatives. The foundation will provide financial support to help NMTCC respond to emerging educational needs, as well as develop long term relationships between the community, industry and the school.
“During these unprecedented times, it became abundantly clear what the term ‘essential worker’ means,” said Gina Pardovich, North Montco’s Administrative Director. “These are individuals who we rely on day-to-day to secure food, heat, water, needed items and services to live.”
Pardovich continued:
“What also became clear is the fact that the students educated at North Montco Technical Career Center work in these essential fields to support our needs and those of business and industry, delivering these services and items. Because good training in the skilled trades is so valuable, North Montco must sustain highly qualified teachers and innovative equipment and technology to train these students.
To sustain such a high level of training is expensive. While assistance from the local community, state and national funding streams are our primary funding source, we need to seed opportunities to alleviate this burden. As Administrative Director of North Montco Technical Career Center, I see the foundation as a vehicle to support the high level of training we must sustain trough fundraising activities and uncovering grant sources.”
To help fuel these initiatives, the foundation will focus on direct school engagement, community involvement and local business and stakeholder outreach.
The foundation has permission to solicit Educational Improvement Tax Credit eligible donations from local businesses. Under the EITC program, the state Department of Community and Economic Development gives tax credits to businesses that contribute to an “educational improvement organization.”
In support of its goal, North Montco has launched a website to highlight donors, foundation-funded programs and stories on how North Montco is preparing students for today’s workforce.
North Montco Technical Career Center offers 22 programs within eight cluster areas including Construction Trades, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Engineering/Manufacturing, Health and Human Services, Horticulture, Power and Transportation, and Visual Arts. The school serves approximately 1100 students from five surrounding school districts (Methacton, North Penn, Perkiomen Valley, Souderton, and Wissahickon). In addition to technical training, NMTCC provides academic courses to the full-time students within all eight clusters.
