More than six area fire companies responded to a fire at the historic Carriage House at Normandy Farms on Thursday night in Whitpain Township.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, crews were initially dispatched to the intersection of Morris Road and Dekalb Pike at 8:07 p.m. for a report of a fire alarm. Police were the first to arrive at the scene and indicated that there was smoke and fire showing from the roof of one of the buildings, causing the dispatch to be upgraded to a working fire.
Witnesses told North Penn Now that those driving by the scene could see both heavy smoke and visible flames. Firefighters placed the fire under control approximately 90 minutes after their arrival, though not before the two-story building — which holds nine hotel rooms — sustained extensive damage.
No injuries were reported at the scene, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Despite the fire, officials from Normandy Farms released a statement late-Thursday night stating they would resume normal business operations on Friday. The statement reads, in full:
Friends of the Farm, while you may have heard we had a fire on property this evening, rest assured that it was contained to one building with nine hotel rooms, no one was injured, and it will have no impact on any other operation. We will be open for business tomorrow and look forward to serving you.
We greatly appreciate your support! - The Normandy Farm Team
In a follow up statement on Friday morning, Normandy Farms officials offered their heartfelt thanks to the Center Square Fire Company, Whitpain Township Police Department and all of the responding fire companies for their assistance.
The Normandy Farms property dates back to the 1700s. The main hotel building on the property suffered no damage, officials said.
