UPDATE: March 4, 9:31 p.m. - The fire has reportedly been placed under control. We will provide an update once we have received information regarding any injuries, damage sustained and potential causes.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, crews were initially dispatched to the intersection of Morris Road and Dekalb Pike at 8:07 p.m. for a report of a fire alarm. Police who were the first to arrive at the scene indicated that there was smoke and fire showing from the roof of one of the buildings, and the dispatch was upgraded to a working fire.
Witnesses told North Penn Now that those driving by the scene could see both heavy smoke and visible flames. There is currently no word regarding injuries or the cause of the fire.
The fire remains active as of 9:10 p.m. and has not yet been placed under control. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area.
Responding units include the fire companies from Centre Square, North Penn, Wissahickon, Upper Gwynedd, Worcester, and Norriton, in addition to local police and emergency medical services.
