An arrest has been made in connection with the knifepoint robbery of the 7-Eleven on North Broad Street that left one store clerk injured.
Hatfield Township Police announced Tuesday morning that 26-year-old Michael Piccola, of Philadelphia, has been arrested in connection with the incident. Piccola was arraigned on Monday night on charges of felony robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, along with misdemeanor counts of unlawful restraint, terroristic threats, theft, receiving stolen property, simple assault and related offenses.
Investigators issued a call for public assistance last week, in an effort to identify and locate the suspect who was captured on surveillance footage. Police said they were dispatched to the 1600 block of North Broad Street at 3:37 a.m. on June 21 for a reported robbery. Investigators learned that an unidentified white male entered the store, grabbed the cashier and forced him to open the cash registers at knifepoint.
The store clerk sustained lacerations to their hand during the incident, requiring treatment at nearby Lansdale Hospital, police said.
Piccola is currently being housed at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post $75,000 cash bail. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on July 6 at 10 a.m. in front of District Judge Maureen Coggins.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
