State Rep. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, introduced H.B. 1639, which would dub a portion of a Montgomery County roadway as the Honorable Robert W. Godshall Memorial Highway.
Godshall served as the elected representative in the PA House for the 53rd Legislative District for 36 years. As a legislator, Malagari said that Godshall was an advocate for countless issues, including health care and tourism. Godshall died from cancer in 2019.
“Representative Godshall was remarkably committed to being an accessible state representative and used his position to better the lives of Pennsylvanians with terminal illnesses,” Malagari said. “His legislation that allowed patients living with terminal illnesses to try treatments not yet approved by the FDA eventually expanded into national law.”
Malagari’s legislation cleared the House Transportation Committee today. Next, it will be sent to the full House for a vote.
“Representative Godshall was devoted to our community as he served 18 consecutive terms in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives plus an additional 20 years in other local offices. I’m happy to memorialize his legacy in this way as he gave so much of his life to our community,” Malagari said.
In addition to Godshall’s time in the Pennsylvania legislature, he served as the Montgomery County controller for three years and on the Souderton Area School Board for 17 years. Godshall was also a trustee of the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
