A Lower Gwynedd man is facing charges after he allegedly stole a firearm suppressor from a gun shop in Chalfont Borough.
Georgi Hvichia, 59, has been charged with one felony count of retail theft and one misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property in connection with the incident.
Police said that Hvichia entered the Bunker Gun Shop II, located at 143 East Butler Avenue, on March 5 to purchase a handgun. While awaiting the background checks for the purchase, surveillance footage showed Hvichia picking up a Surefire suppressor from the top of a display counter and placing it inside of his jacket, investigators said.
Hvichia then exited the store without paying for the suppressor or making any attempt to return it, police said.
As Central Bucks Police began their investigation, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) made contact with Hvichia, who initially stated that he had found the suppressor in the trunk of his vehicle, according to the criminal complaint. Hvichia later agreed to turn the suppressor over to investigators, the report states.
In a follow up interview with the ATF, Hvichia admitted to stealing the suppressor, police said.
Hvichia was charged on June 10 and arraigned on June 11 by District Judge Maggie Snow, who set bail at $50,000 unsecured. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on July 20 at 2:45 p.m. in front of District Judge Regina Armitage.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records, the affidavit of probable cause and interviews with police.
