In May, the Peter Wentz Farmstead was officially recognized by the National Parks Service as a National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program historic site, joining 681 other historical sites who have received the same designation across the country.
With the shine of the designation still fresh, the farmstead held a series of special tours on Saturday in honor of the Juneteenth holiday and celebration. Included in the tour was the story of Jack — an enslaved person who sought and escaped to free from the farm in the 18th century.
